Meaning
It means to suppose something to be true without definite proof என்று சொல்லலாம் அதாவது திட்டவட்டமான ஆதாரம் இல்லாமல் ஏதாவதொன்றை உண்மை என்று கருதுவது என்று அர்த்தம்.
அதாவது நண்பர்களே! PRESUME என்ற இந்த வார்த்தையானது ஒரு நபர் தனது கடந்த கால அனுபவத்தின் அடிப்படையிலோ அல்லது தனக்கு கிடைத்த குறைந்தபட்ச தகவல்களின் அடிப்படையிலோ ஒரு சூழ்நிலையை ஊகித்து முடிவுக்கு வரும் பொழுது அந்த இடத்திலே பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.
உதாரணமாக ஒருவர் "I presume that he will be at the meeting." என்று சொல்லும் பொழுது அவர் யாரைக் குறித்து சொல்கிறாரோ அந்த நபர் அந்தக் கூட்டத்தில் இருக்கிறார் என்று உறுதியாக சொல்லாமல், இருக்கலாம் என்று ஊகித்து சொல்கிறார் என்று அர்த்தமாகும்.
அதைப்போலவே "I presume that you have already completed the assignment." என்று சொல்லும் பொழுது அந்த நபர் யாரைக் குறித்து கூறுகிறாரோ, அவர் அவருக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட வேலையை செய்து விட்டார் என்று ஊகித்து சொல்கிறாரே தவிர அந்த நபர் செய்துவிட்டார் என்று உறுதியாக சொல்லவில்லை என்று அர்த்தமாகும்.
எனவே தமிழில் அனுமானித்தல் அல்லது ஊகித்தல் அல்லது கருதுதல் போன்ற அர்த்தங்களில் PRESUME என்ற இந்த வார்த்தையை பயன்படுத்தலாம்.
